The Mother Blessing
A mother blessing is a ceremonial day to honour and celebrate the mother to be. Inspired by the Dine Navajo ritual of a Blessing Way, which is used to honour many different traditions in Indigenous culture. Birth and motherhood are transformative experiences in a woman’s life, yet we do not have a ceremony to mark the significance and beauty of the transition. This is an opportunity to honour motherhood as a rite of passage, and differs from a baby shower in the sense, as this is mother-centered day.
Surrounded by her nearest and dearest women, the mother luxuriates in a day of adornment and celebration. Think herbal foot soaks, acknowledgement and words of support, stories shared, a thread binding ritual and a celebratory feast.
